Molo Church…

sorry for the late post folks, i was in davao for a few days, i’ll complete my iloilo series first then post the pics of davao.

here’s my 2nd fave chruch in our iloilo trip… the Molo Church.

The Molo Parish Church is one of the most beautiful churches in Western Visayas. It is an awesome imposing edifice of massive white corral rock lording over the Molo Plaza.

The only Gothic church in the entire country outside of Manila, Molo Church was constructed in 1831 under Fray Pablo Montaño and further expanded and finished by Fray Agapito Buenaflor in 1888 under the supervision of Don Jose Manuel Locsin.

Its two belfries had around 30 bells of different sizes ranging from small handbells to big campaniles making a musical tone.

The church, which is dedicated to Santa Ana, the mother of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

i had a great time capturing this architecture, there were so many angles to choose from.

Jaro Cathedral…

The Jaro Cathedral is among the churches in the Philippines that has its belfry separated from it, across the national highway and situated in Jaro’s Plaza. Historically, was used as a lookout tower for sea raiders.

The historical marker of the church states, that Philippine hero Graciano Lopez-Jaena was baptized here.

The Jaro Cathedral is the first and only cathedral in Panay built in 1864. One of its high points in Panay’s history was the visit of Pope John Paul VI, conducting a mass in 1982.

Visitors can go up to a kind of a veranda or balcony at the front of the Jaro cathedral where an icon of a Madonna and child, approximated to be life size. It is encased in glass and is dressed in typical cape. It has a large white choker around its neck. Catholic devotees believed that the image is miraculous and is originally sheltered further up in a small niche atop the churchfront. Over the years, the icon is believed to have grown in size, and when it could no longer fit the niche, it had to be brought down, hence its current location.

coffee and desktop…

this was taken when we were in iloilo last august. we had our breakfast at JD Bakery, one of the cheapest but fine restos around the city. I had cafe americano and some dessert at the background. would you believe you could get a complete meal for only 50 pesos or less…

here’s my desktop, the background is the St. Louis Arch in Missourri, it was my second time to see this wonderful architecture, and it never fails to amaze me. So I took several shots but this one i like best.
