<p style="text-align: center;">
<p style="text-align: center;">On January 9, 1908, with just the stroke of a pen, President Theodore Roosevelt used the powers of the Antiquities Act to create Muir Woods National Monument. William Kent, who donated the land for the monument, requested that it be named for noted conservationist John Muir.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;">

<p style="text-align: center;"><img src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2427/3799467389_4fb4f4113e_o.jpg" alt="" width="465" height="700" /></p>
<p style="text-align: center;">lovin&#8217; the trees</p>
<p style="text-align: center;">
<p style="text-align: center;">Coastal redwood trees have indeterminate growth. The tallest recorded to date is 379.1 feet tall or 115.5 meters. This is the same height as a 35 story building.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;">
<p><br/></p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3439/3799458451_85e27e3171_o.jpg" alt="" width="700" height="465" /></p>
<p style="text-align: center;">Muir Woods is open every day of the year, including all holidays. Park hours vary throughout the year, but the park is generally open 8:00 a.m. to sunset.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;">
<p><br/></p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3426/3799458459_69373d1fe6_o.jpg" alt="" width="465" height="700" /></p>
<p style="text-align: center;">Gifford Pinchot is known for reforming the management and development of forests in the United States and for advocating the conservation of the nation&#8217;s reserves by planned use and renewal. He called it &#8220;the art of producing from the forest whatever it can yield for the service of man.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;">

<p style="text-align: center;"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3556/3799458467_10053a092a_o.jpg" alt="" width="700" height="465" /></p>
<p style="text-align: center;">Muir Woods National Monument turned 100 on January 9, 2008! President Theodore Roosevelt designated this old-growth redwood forest as the United State&#8217;s 10th National Monument.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;">

<p style="text-align: center;">The park is cool, shaded and moist year round. Daytime temperatures at Muir Woods average between 40 and 70 degrees Farenheit.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;">
<p style="text-align: center;">

<p style="text-align: center;">&#8220;<em>This is the best tree-lovers monument that could possibly be found in all the forests of the world</em>,&#8221;</p>
<p style="text-align: center;">declared conservationist John Muir when describing the majestic coast redwoods of Muir Woods.</p>
